We meticulously prepare our Race specific chains in-house. It is by far the simplest way to #OwnYourWatts – often saving 5 to 10watts versus many drip-on lubricants available locally depending on actual lubricant choice and maintenance thereof. Compared to a bearing upgrade, many people spend tons of money to upgrade bearings and oversized pully wheels, to save a mere 0.25 – 0.5 Watts. From Bikecalculator.com we learned that for most riders every watt of friction you remove from your drive-train is about equivalent to taking 250gram to 300gram of dead weight off your bicycle on a 5% gradient climb. Every watt you don’t lose to easily avoidable friction is another watt propelling you forward faster for the same effort.
Could be the difference between getting dropped or not on that hard effort climb!
Our wax prepped chains in comparison to a lube you just put on your chain, in the latter you will start loosing watts from km zero! This is due to the dust in the air sticking like a magnet to the lube and penetrating your drivetrain causing losses and increased friction. Our wax prepped chain is completely dry and only needs around 20-30km to be un in and be fully smooth – we therefore recommend running in your chain the day before your event on your activation ride.
Our Fully Optimized Race chain is the fastest choice for all road and off-road racing. It is amazing in dust, mud and water! WAX is a solid, it is the “lubricant” most resistant to friction increases from contamination for the duration of your event. Like all lubricants however the more extreme the conditions, the shorter the lifespan of the lubricant.

Chain Speed/efficiency test. The Graph below shows the chain speeds as tested by Zero Friction Cycling. The YELLOW line indicates the chain efficiency after optimization and the RED line indicates the efficiency of the chain as supplied from the factory.
Data compliments of Zero Friction Cycling and Ceramic speed. By considering chain speed, it must be mentioned that a fast and efficient chain does not mean it is longer lasting or more durable. The wear rate on the fastest chain will be significantly higher in comparison due to tolerances and materials used to manufacture. Co-incidentally the slowest chain on the list below is also the longest lasting according to the independent test house in Australia. Kindly note that specific models are not mentioned.

The below graph shows chain wear data based on independent LAB tests (Zero Friction Cycling). The below shows only the top 10 lubes that out performs all others. The actual lists contains over 50 different lubes and a full list can be obtained either on the Zero Friction Cycling website or on request from us. These lists are constantly growing. Kindly note the blocks are stipulated in clean test vs dry contamination (DUST), Wet contamination (WET+DUST) and then lastly, extreme conditions such as sea water + mud + dust + wet etc. Here we assume our wax application will perform as indicated pending official lab tests.
